The Alest Hotel:
Our Luxury Home in Mexico City
Whenever we travel to Mexico City, there’s only one place we stay: The Alest Hotel in Polanco. At this point, it feels less like a hotel and more like our home in CDMX. For us as parents, it’s the rare combination of safety, comfort, and luxury that makes every trip not only enjoyable but stress-free.
Why The Alest Works for Families in Mexico City
One of the details that matters most to us is that The Alest is a low-rise hotel. In a city known for its earthquakes and tremors, staying in a property with only a few floors gives us peace of mind. Beyond safety, it also means everything is easier, moving around with kids, coming and going with strollers, or simply feeling more at ease.
The hotel itself is small and boutique, but it never compromises on quality. The rooms are spacious and modern, and the staff always goes the extra mile. They’ve provided us with pack-and-plays (sometimes two!) whenever we ask, and every stay comes with a thoughtful surprise: adorable plush bunnies for the kids, which they now treasure. It’s that kind of detail that makes The Alest feel personal.
Breakfast and Dining: Simple Luxury at Its Best
Breakfast is included in the stay, and while the menu is simple, the quality and presentation are excellent. Fresh fruit plates, eggs or waffles, strong black coffee, and juice: all beautifully served in the hotel’s charming restaurant.
The dining area is one of my favorite parts of The Alest. It feels very European, tucked away on a quiet Polanco street that offers a sense of calm you don’t always find in Mexico City. The food from the hotel kitchen is consistently excellent, and the bar is equally impressive. We’ve even arrived late at night — close to 11:30 pm — and they still served us a proper meal with no hesitation. After long travel days (and the usual airport food disasters), that kind of service feels like the ultimate luxury.
Polanco with Kids: Effortless City Living
The location couldn’t be better. Parque Lincoln is just half a block away, with its aviary, playground, and vibrant atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where our kids can play safely while we enjoy the city vibe. The park is alive with families, joggers, and vendors, but it never feels overwhelming. It reminds us of Europe: where daily life naturally blends with leisure.
From the hotel, we can walk to countless cafés and restaurants. That means no traffic, no endless Uber rides, and no wrestling with car seats. For families in CDMX, that’s a game-changer.
And if you’re in the mood to explore Polanco in style, The Alest provides the most aesthetic bicycles you can imagine “bright red, with elegant baskets” that make every ride feel straight out of a European postcard. They’re perfect for cruising around the neighborhood’s leafy streets or heading to nearby cafés. Honestly, they’re so beautiful we couldn’t resist taking a few photos before riding off.
Why The Alest Feels Like Home
Traveling with kids often forces you to choose between luxury and practicality — but at The Alest, we never have to compromise. It’s intimate, elegant, safe, and family-oriented in all the right ways. Every stay feels consistent: the same warmth, the same comfort, and the same effortless experience.
For us, The Alest is more than just a boutique hotel in Mexico City; it’s become our tradition, our safe haven, and our family’s perfect base in CDMX.
