Casa Carolina Cartagena:
A Romantic Colonial Escape in the Walled City
Cartagena is one of those destinations that instantly captivates with its cobblestone streets, colorful houses, and vibrant history. Staying inside the walled city takes the experience to another level, and for our couples’ getaway we chose Casa Carolina, a colonial boutique hotel located right across from Cartagena’s beautiful Cathedral.
The atmosphere feels almost surreal. Inside, Casa Carolina combines restored colonial architecture with modern touches, creating a space that feels intimate and charming. High ceilings, detailed tiles, and airy courtyards set the scene for a truly romantic escape. It’s the kind of place where you forget about time, sipping coffee in a quiet patio while the Cathedral bells echo outside.
Location is everything here. Casa Carolina sits in the heart of the walled city, making it effortless to explore shops, plazas, and Cartagena’s best restaurants on foot. For us, this trip was all about reconnecting as a couple, and having the city’s energy just steps away while retreating to a serene and cozy hotel at night was the perfect balance.
But Cartagena is also a destination that works beautifully for families. While Casa Carolina caters best to couples, the city has plenty of colonial houses available for rent on Airbnb. These homes often include full kitchens, spacious living areas, and even private pools, making daily life with kids much easier and more relaxed. Cooking at home, enjoying the pool between sightseeing, and still being surrounded by the charm of the walled city is a great option for parents traveling with little ones.
Tips for Parents and Couples
For couples: ask for a room with a Cathedral view for the ultimate romantic backdrop. Casa Carolina is ideal if you want luxury and intimacy right in the middle of Cartagena’s historic magic.
For families: consider renting a colonial house with a pool and kitchen. It gives you more flexibility with meals and a comfortable setup for kids, while still experiencing the charm of staying inside the walled city.
